We learned that the large white dome adjacent to the Queen Mary was originally built to house Howard Hughes' "Spruce Goose, " the largest airplane made out of plywood that ever actually flew. The structure is now used for concerts.
We went to Los Angeles on April 19 and spent two nights at the historic Queen Mary Hotel before sailing on April 21 to Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

The dome is used by Carnival Cruises as a boarding lounge and gangway to their ships sailing from Long Beach as well as a movie set and concert hall.
